C5: Second trip to Italy

The trip to Italy was a great experience for our Erasmus+ students. After a warm welcome by the principal and the teachers, they had the possibility to visit the school and facilities (labs, orchard, vineyard, products processing, cheese lab by students). We also exchanged gifts (local/typical products and sustainable gifts made by students e.g. a 3D-printing in the shape of Austria and the national monument of Styria – Uhrturm/clock tower in Graz) The international groups of students continued to work on strategies how to promote local products on a global scale. For example, the students created among many other things an eBook with local recipes from Umbria - Italy. This cookbook contains bilingual recipes in English and in Italian. The results are great and we plan to publish the cookbook on the respective school homepages. Further, the students visited local producers and learned about sustainable, eco-friendly and innovative practices (Salcheto modern winery and Poggiovalle farm and winery). The different guided tours were very interesting and emphasized that eco-friendly, organic and sustainable companies can thrive and are in fact the future. Further, the students continued to work on the glossary, webpage, etc. We also visited the historical centre of Orvieto and Montepulciano (in English with a guide). Further, we also went to Parrano to the local mini elementary school where the students welcomed us in English and worked on the SDG (Sustainable Development Goals). Afterwards we had a guided tour through the local forest and talked about agriculture, forestry and climate change, and its challenges. On the last day, the "Festa dell'Europa" took place and the students from Judenburg and Voitsberg talked about sustainability at their respective schools. For example, the students from Voitsberg focused on their Junior Company. For example, they upcycled old school maps from the seventies and created different products e.g. jewellery and passport covers and keychains and sold them off- and online. The students had the chance to meet local politicians and Italian members of the European Parliament (MEP). The conference lasted the whole day and the students got their certificates at the end to enrich their resumes and improve their employability.
